How we Help

We aim to offer a professional, empathic, inclusive and diverse range of interventions to assist individuals, couples, families and children to enhance their lives with a solution focused approach to change.

We strive to create a supportive clinical practice that aspires to improve people’s lives by working with them on how their emotions, thought and behaviours can be implemented as resources to grow from, and rise above life challenges.

We provide clients with guidance, hope, and practical resources in challenging times, finding a sense of purpose and healing for themselves and those around them.

Who we Are

Dr Chaykham Smith

Clinical psychologist

Dr Chaykham Smith is a Clinical Psychologist skilled in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Clinical Research, and Psychological Assessment. Chaykham has a Doctorate in Philosophy (Ph.D.) majoring in Psychology from The University of Auckland. She completed her Clinical Psychology Training with the University of Waikato. Her undergraduate studies in Psychology and Neuroscience was completed with the University of Otago. She has been a practicing Clinical Psychologist for over 19 years.

Chaykham has experience with children, adolescents, adults and older adults from a wide and diverse cultural background in hospital, community and private settings. She is fluent in two languages and while her passion is clinical work and supporting people to thrive, she also enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, gardening and fishing.

Dr Elize Coetsee

Clinical psychologist

Elize has been a Clinical Psychologist since 2010. She worked with adults in various hospital settings in South Africa focused on the assessment and treatment of mental health conditions. She obtained her PhD in Clinical Psychology in 2017 before her move to New Zealand in 2018.

Over time she developed a deep interest in traumatic loss, bereavement and the process of individuation. She is passionate about building a therapeutic relationship by applying a non-judgemental humanitarian stance.

Her therapeutic approach is based on the biopsychosocial spiritual model combined with an eclectic therapeutic approach. She draws on various models in psychology which enables her to adapt the therapeutic approach to the unique needs of the client. She has an unquenchable curiosity and admiration for the human spirit’s ability to endure hardship and grow from it.

In her free time, she enjoys painting, reading and spending time with her Frenchie, Maslow.

Joanna Linton

Administrative Support

Jo provides outstanding administrative support to Wellbeing Psychology Limited and their team. In addition to administrative tasks, they assist with the running of Orange Tree Grove.

She is married to Scott, and has three children aged 17, 23 and 28. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends or relaxing in the garden.

Our Services

Chaykham’s expertise includes anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, post traumatic stress disorder and burnout. The therapeutic model utilized is dependent on the client’s presentation and their presenting needs, with cognitive behaviour therapy, compassion focused therapy and solution focused therapy key approaches in her work.

Elize has worked in New Zealand as a Clinical Psychologist since 2018. Trained in various settings in South Africa, she has a passion for finding the underlying root of the problem. She combines a developmental psychology approach with symptom management techniques to facilitate immediate and long term change. Elize has a special interest in the identification of behaviour patterns across generations and the implementation of epigenetic resilience. She views trauma and challenges as opportunities for growth and new insight.

She has also been guided through lived experiences to have a personal interest in working in the area of traumatic loss, bereavement, death and dying. She values guiding people to find meaning and hope in transitional stages drawing on the work of Viktor Frankl, Elizabeth Kubler-Ross and other significant figures whose life theories was born from personal experiences.

Through the process of self-awareness and reflection, exercised in a warm non-judgemental environment, she assists clients with transformation, actualization and restoration of balance.
Elize practices an eclectic therapeutic approach drawing on various models in psychology in order to adapt the therapeutic approach and goals to the unique needs of the client.

As a private organisation, we do not have the wrap around services available to meet the needs of clients who are in crisis.
